Lets be honest…as a mother I kind of sort of sometimes like my space on occasion. If it was up to my kids however, we would live in a one room house. Ha!! No seriously. My 2 oldest (Lydia and Joey) teamed up to share a room – for forever and ever or so they say – because they simply love NOT being alone. (I will check back when they are teenagers on that line) This also gave me the task of creating a space that is both for a boy AND a girl. And thanks to our fabulously adorable character home, I had the added bonus of bunk beds. I have yet to master the top bunk bed making….its harder than it looks. Ha!!
I consider my style to be eclectic + modern + vintage. There is a definite mix between old and new – many of the old coming from my childhood which I love. My inspiration for this space was to create something that they can grow with by adding a few sophisticated elements and keeping it somewhat gender neutral. And because we are planning to move in the near future, I didn’t want to do a complete overhaul of the room so some repurposed some pieces and did a couple DIY projects.
Naturally, the picture wall just HAD to start with the tomato print. I’ve been eyeing it for months and finally took the plunge to redo their picture wall. Society6 has some of the most fabulous artists so it was a no brainer when I need more art for the walls to scour their site. Eiffel chairs have made a comeback and its one of my favorite pieces in the room. Its not only a fun + comfy chair but it gives them a little corner nook where they can read and draw. I absolutely love the trend of simple bedding and patterned sheets. By keeping the quilts less busy, I can soothe my twitch for wanting to change up their rooms every few months by changing up the sheets, adding different throw pillows (you can never have too many…..shhh…don’t tell my husband) or even a fun throw blanket to completely change the look.
